How to Feed and Water Your Plants with the Environment in Mind – Gardening Workshop

Join us for a morning gardening workshop discovering how to keep your plants healthy and thriving through the ways we feed and water them. We’ll explore the array of fertilisers available, and how to create various sustainable fertilisers of your own. We’ll also cover how to water your garden which is more involved than you might think! Looking at how to water your garden effectively, ensuring you care for your plants while caring for the planet.

Join us as we dive into the world of plant feeds and watering techniques and learn about the different types of garden fertilisers, how they work, and discover when and where they can be most effective. You’ll also learn how to make your own natural liquid fertilizers at home, with a demonstration on creating nutrient-rich nettle feed.

Easy Garden Design CourseAnd since no meal is complete without a drink, we’ll also explore practical tips for keeping your plants hydrated through those long, hot summer months. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just getting started, this workshop will equip you with the tools to nurture your garden in a greener, more sustainable way.

You will learn:

  • what fertilisers are – organic/inorganic, liquid, and granules
  • about fertilisers and the environment
  • when and how you should feed your plants
  • how to make your own liquid feeds including a demonstration
  • how to reduce the need for watering your garden
  • how to water pots and borders effectively
  • how to keep your garden watered during a period of drought

People who want to get to know their gardens better, whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience but want to develop your skills and knowledge.

The Venue:

Our very own studio space is set within the grounds of Old Barn Garden Centre, Dial Post, South of Horsham. Our dedicated space for courses, is a light airy and spacious place to learn.

The Group:

Jenny teaches in small groups (max 10) which ensures everyone gets the opportunity to practice, and time to ask questions. Our monthly workshops are a great way to meet like minded people with an interest in gardening and the natural world.

Beginners Gardening CourseTutor:

Jenny’s approach to teaching gardening is influenced by a passion for greener gardening and a strong belief in working with your soil and climate rather than against it. As the owner of the Lindfield Gardening Company, Jenny has a wide range of experience including horticultural gardening, planting design and teaching gardening to enthusiastic beginners.

Monthly Gardening Workshops at Sussex Garden School

Gardening Workshops happen on the last Friday morning of the month at the Sussex Garden School Studio (RH13 8NR) and pre-booking is essential. These small-group sessions, led by expert gardener Jenny Samuels,  cover essential skills to help your garden thrive—whether it’s growing plants from seed, mastering composting, taking cuttings, or selecting and planting seasonal bulbs.
