Ever been disappointed when your garden photograph just doesn’t match up to the wonderful view you saw in real life? Join pro photographer Matthew Thomas for an evening workshop of both theory as well as lots of practice, and find out how to make truly great shots, every time.

Ever been disappointed when your garden photograph just doesn’t match up to the wonderful view you saw in real life? Join professional photographer Matthew Thomas in the gorgeous gardens of Field Place Manor House and find out how to make truly great shots, every time.

This early evening workshop will involve a mixture of training room teaching, and a practical session implementing what you have learnt, using the wonderful grounds of Field Place Manor House as your subject matter.

"Subjects Covered:

Training room session: Learning what makes a great shot.
The fundamentals of good composition, how to work with light, how to use any camera like a pro.

Practical session in the gardens of Field Place, with hands-on tuition.

Making the shot is only half the story: We will return to the seminar room to learn how to easily edit your photographs with skill to bring out their best – and remove the worst!

Who is the course for?

The course is designed for beginners and those with some experience of using a camera, who want to up their game and make great photographs. Please bring your camera or smartphone and, if at all possible, a cable to connect it to a computer.

By the end of the workshop you will have:

  • A clear understanding of how to compose a good photograph.
  • Practical experience of making photographs in a garden setting, learning from a professional photographer.
  • Guidance on the right equipment needed to make great shots, to suit your budget.

The winner of the ‘best photograph’ of the session will receive a professionally made print of their shot to keep!

The Tutor:

Matthew J Thomas is a Sussex – based photographer working in a range of styles, including portraits, interiors, landscape, gardens and product photography. His photographs regularly appear in magazines, books and websites worldwide, including recent features in ‘Sussex Life’, ‘Country Life’ and ‘The Lady’. Amongst other projects, he is currently working on a book to illustrate the largest and oldest trees in Sussex.
