Learn to create your own beautiful glass flower piece inspired by the colours of Summer.
By the end of the day;
You will have enjoyed wandering around the beautiful flower garden and having time to observe and sketch the flowers
You will have learnt about fused glass and the range of techniques used
You will have used some design skills to create your own unique design for your statement glass piece of your choice
You will have created your glass piece (platter, bowl or vase) ready for firing using your sketch ideas and your design
You will have used a range of accessory glass to create your piece
You will make for yourself:
A beautiful large flower bowl, platter or vase
Introduction:
You will spend the first part of the morning walking around the beautiful flower garden observing and drawing some of the amazing flowers. This part of the day will help develop your ideas for your own glass piece.
We will spend time creating some simple guided sketches, taking time to observe the shape and colours of the flowers.
We will then have a brief talk and introduction to fused glass and the range of materials available before moving on to designing your own unique statement glass piece. This can be a square platter 30cm x 30cm, or a glass bowl 30cm diameter, or a glass vase approx. 25cm tall. Jazz will guide you through the practicalities of the design process and show you how to incorporate the ideas from your sketches.
After lunch you will create your design using a wide range of coloured accessory glass with the help and guidance from the expert.
Your finished design will be taken away and fired, and returned for collection in approx. 3 weeks.
Please note that your work will be fired by Jazz after the course and can be collected in person or sent to you at cost.
Tutor:
Jazz graduated as a BA Hons Designer Maker from the University of Brighton, specialising in glass. For many years she taught design and crafts to children and now she teaches glass techniques to adults.
She has a reputation for patience and intimate knowledge of glass as material and a variety of techniques for crafting it.
Jazz has always been creative, studying music, photography, theatre studies and biology at A-level. She has designed opera sets and stage costumes. She draws on all these influences for her work, as well as her love of nature, gardens and landscape. Her work is available at several galleries and shops and she exhibits locally, in Sussex.

An explanation of the art of fusing glass
Understanding how to choose glass to create beautiful glass decorations
Practice with different decorative techniques to create your piece
An exploration of different ideas & inspiration to spark your own imagination
The day includes:
A tasty lunch
A tour of the cut-flower fields, with Emma Martin, the proprietor
All equipment required for the day
Use of a craft apron
Everything you need to create your decorative piece
Refreshments throughout the day
Jazz will fuse your piece after the class for you to either collect or have sent to you at cost of postage
By the end of the day you will have:
Enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the flower garden in Spring
Understood the basic theory of glass fusing and used different techniques to create your piece
Had a go at glass cutting
Designed and completed ready for firing:
your own beautiful piece to enjoy or give away as a gift
Jazz will fire you piece after the class for you to either collect or have sent to you at cost of postage
Who is the course for?
No experience necessary.
This day involves basic glass-cutting, which Jazz will show you and help you with.
The Group:
Jazz teaches in small, informal groups (max 9).
The day is very hands-on, practical and relaxed.
